What’s your role in the team and how did you get there?
Vanessa
My role in the team is to guide and motivate them! Coaching them, especially at the beginning, and then accompanying them and making sure they feel ready to navigate all possible situations. I also wear the hats of accountant and strategist 馃槉
Kate
As the Recruitment Director, I am responsible for both business development on the client side and candidate sourcing for the Ontario region. My previous experience in BD and recruitment was a perfect matchup for the skillset needed to succeed in this role. As we grow, I will be leading a team of recruiters based in our Toronto office.聽
Laurence
I am a Senior Recruitment Specialist. After studying in human resources, I worked in that field for a while. I quickly realized that the recruitment aspect was what I liked the most, and I wanted to focus on this aspect. The idea of working in a firm appealed to me and I found the challenge stimulating. A meeting with the team convinced me and for over 3 years, I have had the opportunity to accompany inspiring and dedicated Assistants in their career path.
Maurane
I am the coordinator and Social Media manager. I was originally approached as a candidate by one of the Recruitment Specialists, Catherine, and we exchanged back and forth for a few months. When Indispensable Recruitment needed a coordinator, she thought of me, and the rest is history! I have held several positions managing departments and projects, so it’s a position that aligns well with my skillset while bringing in something new.
What’s your greatest strength, and what is the greatest strength of the team as a whole?
Vanessa
My curiosity. I don’t leave problems unsolved, and I always have a thirst for learning and understanding. The team’s greatest strength, in my opinion, is listening to others. We are very niche, and I’m lucky to have a team that genuinely listens to the Assistants and wants to help them. It may sound cheesy, but it’s so true! When we receive beautiful messages from our candidates after hiring them, we are always moved and we share them with each other.
Kate
I would say my greatest strength is building trusting relationships with both clients and candidates. Both sides of the coin are equally important to us, and I try my best to be as genuine as possible. As a team, I believe our integrity is what sets us apart. We hold ourselves up to a high moral standard and it shows through our reputation and long lasting relationships.聽
Laurence
My greatest strength is my ability to create connections and develop relationships, especially with candidates. I can easily understand Assistants and build a trusting relationship with them, which greatly helps me in my work. The team’s greatest strength is our personalized approach. The quality of our work is very important to us, starting from the first interaction, whether it’s with a candidate or a client. From the very beginning, it is crucial for us to make people feel comfortable, to be transparent and available. We position ourselves as partners for the Assistants and this is reflected in everything we do.
Maurane
I would say that my greatest strength is my research and understanding ability. If there is any need, I am able to quickly find a solution and learn new skills fairly quickly. The strength of the team is our ability, but above all, our desire to support and help each other. No matter what the situation is, we never feel alone or discouraged, and it’s very motivating when times are tougher!
What’s your number 1 tip to ace an interview?
Vanessa
Describe yourself as you really are, not the image you would like to portray. The trap is to name the strengths that we want to have or that we are still developing versus our actual main strengths. It’s important to be yourself, but that also means showing up to the interview as yourself. At the beginning of my career, interviews were talked about as a very serious moment – and they are – but don’t forget to let people see who you are. Try to let your personality shine through in your answers!
Kate
Being able to tell your story. Having an elevator pitch where you can articulate your career path and how you got to where you are today is hugely important. People need to be able to talk about themselves in a confident, clear way!聽
Laurence
I believe it’s important to be able to support our statements with concrete situations. For example, it’s great to be able to identify our strengths and what makes us a good candidate, however, I find that this kind of statement has even more impact when we are able to explain concretely in what context it has served us.

What’s your favourite thing about working at indispensable recruitment?
Vanessa
The fact that we are a tight-knit group of women! We are all different and we always manage to share and exchange in an ultra-positive energy! And one thing: the gong! The ultimate object for team celebration!
Kate
My favourite part about working for Indispensable is being able to meet so many driven professionals and helping them find their dream jobs. I take a lot of satisfaction in helping both the client and candidate find their perfect matchup.聽
Laurence
The team’s dynamic and our closeness is really motivating. We know we can all count on each other, without judgment or unhealthy competition. Each person wants to succeed individually, but also cares about the team’s success, so the work atmosphere is very pleasant.
Maurane
As we all say, it’s the team that makes Indispensable Recruitment so incredible! But also, the unshakeable trust we all have in each other.
What do you hope to achieve this year at indispensable recruitment?
Vanessa
To further develop the Toronto market and help newcomers continue to thrive!
Kate
I hope to develop a strong Toronto reputation as the “white glove” recruitment firm for Administrative professionals. I want clients to understand how carefully we screen, and take time to understand the needs of the hiring manager before presenting them candidates. 聽Above all, I want candidates to know 聽how much we care and how hard we work to determine the right fit for any organization.聽
Laurence
I want to push myself and continue to grow in my role, and I want my efforts from the past 3 years to continue to pay off! Ultimately, I want to be a role model for my current and future colleagues, to guide them through both good and tough times.
Maurane
I am organizing our Symposium this year, and it’s the first time I’m organizing an event of this magnitude. I can’t wait to see the culmination of these efforts! I would also like to continue developing the social media presence for Montreal and Toronto to help us achieve our goals.
